Caught on Video ! Taib Admits Vast Wealth As He Bribes Voters!

This post is also available in: Iban

Same old boasts and same old bribes - Taib had nothing new to offer in Sibu

Taib has not only been caught out bribing voters, but also admitting to his vast wealth!  The illegal act and the confession were both captured in a video recording of an election speech that has now come into the possession of Sarawak Report.  In the recording he tells his audience:

“I’ve got more money than I can ever spend, so I don’t worry about money.  All my children now look after [my money], so I am giving you something very nice”

Later he makes a direct offer to bribe the audience of longhouse voters, who he was visiting during the Sibu by-election:

“I am prepared to give you 600 ringgit per [longhouse] door, normal thing right, no change.  People have said that’s a lot of money.  I have many friends all over the world. They are in Germany, Japan, China. We can talk, ask them to invest here.”

Watch the bribe

He boasts about his wealth

“More money than I can ever spend” -  vindication of Sarawak Report

The footage was taken while Taib was doing the rounds of the longhouses during the recent Sibu by-election, where he in fact suffered a shock defeat.  It shows the aging politician employing his tried and tested method for winning seats, without realising that time and technology has moved on.  He should have known that what you say in public these days gets recorded!  In response, Sarawak Report would like to thank him for his statements, which we regard as a vindication of our accusations over the past weeks and a full confession of his corruption.

His remarks admitting he has accumulated “more money than I can ever spend” out of abusing his position of power in Sarawak, were recorded on cheap equipment by observers in the audience, who say that he repeated the same claims and offered the same bribe of 600 ringgit per door (longhouse family) numerous times as he visited different communities.

In so doing he has demonstrated that while he officially disguises the fact that he is the real owner of his family’s fortune by using his siblings and children as nominees, he still thinks he can get away with bragging about it in public, especially when he is trying to impress voters he wants to bribe.

However, this time he did not get away with it.  In Sibu the voters knew full well that he was trying to bribe them with their own money, having stripped them of their lands and taken the profits.   Their message to the Chief Minister after this speech in June was that if he has more money than he can ever spend why is he still seeking to stay on in office and make yet more money out of Sarawak?  This message needs to be repeated by all the voters at the State Election and the Federal Election.  The opposition coalition wants to end Taib Mahmud’s illegal plunder of the State of Sarawak!

See for yourself

Sarawak Report has produced a transcript of what the Chief Minister said in the recording, which was spoken partly in Malay and partly in English with some Iban, in a speech to a crowded longhouse.  While the audio is not good, it is perfectly possible to make out his words.

DOWNLOAD THE TRANSCRIPT IN ENGLISH AND MALAY

False promises and dreams of ‘development’

Apart from his admissions, the Chief Minister concentrated the rest of his speech on trying to entice the longhouse folk into surrendering up their remaining native lands to the State.  His excuse is that he will then be able to develop a grand ‘Master Plan’ that he claims will provide them with amenities and development.   But, over the last 30 years Sarawakians have all heard these promises many times before.  Many have surrendered him lands and received nothing.  Sarawak is the richest State in Malaysia, but now holds many of its poorest and most backward people, thanks to Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Yet, in his speech the Chief Minister tries to blame the people for their predicament!  Instead of showing sympathy and appropriate guilt, he blames them for not giving him MORE of their resources.  He also suggests that it is their traditional way of life that is holding them back.

“How many of you have a salary?” he asks accusingly,”For those of you who have a salary, how many of you can afford to buy a house?”

He scolds his audience to “stop their old customs” and abandon “cultivating hill rice”, because it is “no progress and no benefit”. Instead he tells them to “go for a Master Plan” and “give the mandate of the land to the Government!”.

Sensibly, the people of Sibu rejected Taib’s suggestions.  Sarawak is littered with failed ‘Master Plans’ where only a few Taib cronies and family members made a profit.  After 30 years the people know that the only “progress and benefit” Taib really cares about relates to that of his own bank account.  To give him their land is to lose it.

looks like sarawakians are screwed in perpetuity and still not awakened to the abuses.

if you are not prepared to report this matter to the authourity, it's really pointless.

      Mr Banyui said:

"if you are not prepared to report this matter to the authourity, it’s really pointless".

      ————–

Who is "the authority" that you are referring to? Do you mean the MACC? the Police? the Chief Minister himself? the Prime Minister, the Election Commission or what?

You are right it's pointless if the matter is not reported. But let me tell you lest you won't know. Report after reports to the so-called authorities cited above. Of course, as expected, nothing will happen. As you say it becomes pointless.

The very reason it is reported here because nothing has happened with the report to "the authorities". The final authority and as judge of all is the RAKYAT–THE PEOPLE, YOU AND ME. You and I read it and digest it and decide on it. Our action is simple. The ballot box is our instrument of rectification. What you should put into the ballot box is the representation of your conscience that you translate into political will. Sarawak Report has done its part and now it yours and mine. Peace be to you.

To win the next Sarawak Election, the state PKR must has a bold manifesto such as:

End the so-called no-bid government contracts for project exceeding RG$1 million.

    Transparency of government

Recoup all the money, properties and stocks held by Taib and his family in Sarawk and abroad and state clearly that the money recoupted will be distributed equally to all Sarawkians.

    • http://yahoo.com Raban

After recovered the money we use it to develope all states in sarawak. Construct roads, bridges, school and hospitals.Pay old folk a monthly reasonable amount to return their that was taken by uban.

Remember to vote out BN and help PR to power. Nothing is impossible if all rayat work together. BEGEMPONG KITAI.

  • http://MALAYSIAKINI wandererAUS

What has he got to hide, he is the "White Hair Raja" of Sarawak..the ball-less MACC will only dare to sniff at him between his two hind legs!!

  • http://[email protected] Dr. Patau Rubis

Thanks, but what is new really?

This has been going on for a long time. I tried to help reduce it and became a victim.

The problem lies with the majority of voters who want money for their votes and support. I have had many experiences with people asking money for their support. Taib succumbed to money politics early and thinks with money the whole world will be under his feet. 1987 was a mostly likely a defining moment for him for he was almost toppled because he had less money than his uncle, Tun Rahman. So far he is right for he is still in full control despite rumblings of discontent and "open rebellion by the more informed voters in the urban areas".

Till the majority can take the money but still vote wisely for change for the better, Taib remains in control.

Still our problems lies within the divided opposition which has rhetoric aplenty but has no real move to provide a real alternative to BN except ready to fight each other in three corner fights as in Batu Sapi and the last GE12.

It is vital for whoever dreams to become PM to be a "Statesman" and get all the opposition parties under one umbrella with a common symbol like BN.

In Sarawak and Sabah, we have to sit down and discuss how to work together.

Otherwise Taib could go on and on as he has all the resources in his favor with only these weaknesses as exhibited may destroy his agenda which he can recover with others' co-operation and help in BN.

    • peaker

Thanks Dr Patau. Its nothing new but we "MUDAH LUPA"

I just cant understand why the dayak leaders are still gripping his balls and refused to let go. Is it not wealth that binds that tight "friendship".

  • najibrazak

Taib! Get a grip on yourself and help me to avoid the police getting a grip on you. Of course we in BN bribe voters all the time. What else do we have to offer them? But a little discretion please!

By the way if you have more money than you can ever spend how about sending some to the NRRF. (Najib Razak Retirement Fund)

Unlike you I still dont have enough. Happy bribing. NR

  • mdaa

I have been reading a lot on the reports in the website. but i do agree that only having the so called proof, publishing it here and not reporting it to the authorities brings no benefit. readers can only read and tell others. but that's it. the reason why Taib is not doing anything is because he knows the system and how the system works. he can cover his tracks well and he knows that whatever evidence against him will not stand. what we have are only theories and pictures. if these proof are valid so bring it up and make them public. drag Taib to court and prove him guilty. The allegations are very serious and without relevant and reliable proof we will lose. please, if you really want to help and if u really have evidence, do something about it. if not, the Sarawak Report will be another bedtime stories for all readers. I am sorry but I see now that the will be no end to Taib's domination in Sarawak unless he is brought down. History has proven that dictators can be brought to justice and punished as long as the evidence is against them. Please do the right thing.

    • najibrazak

Only the electorate can do this and MUST do it. mdaa should help by encouraging all he knows to vote Taib out.

  • change-change-change

When Obama keep saying change although USA is at the top of the world. How about we sarawakians? Please fight for your right to the end for your childrens have better future. Only Taib's friends and businessman can get rich and these fucking rich people, majority fucking chinese bully us at work, etc. I hope all of you do a little to contribute to sarawak and build the better future for your next generation. Eliminate these fucking chinese in malaysia and only proper chinese can stay in our country! Taib is a loser. by saying that wherever he go he cannot proud of himself as dayak! He ashames of his own race and children. come on taib, don't forget your dayak, not white!! Accept you are poor race because of you!!

    • b______o

      Dear change-change-change

I do not think it is fair that you berate every single Sarawakian Chinese for unscrupulous business practices that are committed by only a few. As a Sarawakian first (I am ethnically Chinese, but let's not let demographic grouping divide us) it shits me to death that corruption goes on so blatantly in our state. Additionally it has unjustly rewarded a few rich merchant Sarawakian families at the expense of every other single Sarawakian – be it Iban, Dayak, Chinese, Malay, Penan, etc. I sincerely hope they burn in hell for all eternity.

However, I would like to point out that this corruption:

      1) is an unwanted but necessary cost of doing business in Sarawak; and

      2) even if kickbacks were not awarded, someone else would come along as businesses must progress and get returns on investment.

The source of the problem is our weak and tainted judiciary, and extremely corrupted administrative. Until we can reform the legislative and executive and maintain separation of powers, it is a very sad reality. The idea of separation of powers, is that each branch of goverment will keep each other in check.

Note that this is a Federal wide problem. I've given it a lot of thought, and the only way things can change is at the ballot. I encourage you change-change-change and anyone else reading this not to succumb to superficial blaming, but to consider more deeply how we can improve the situation.

  • Tiarama

I really doubt the PKR can win the next Sarawak state election because they will always be some defectors later on as the "thief" minister has so much money to spare and he won't hesitate to use his money as the election will be "life" or "death" for him and his family. Further more, he can easily rig the election in the rural area by controlling the ballot boxes.

    • najibrazak

If voters take Taib's bribes they deserve his dictatorship AND will go on getting it. Its up to PKR to see that they choose candidates that Taib cannot bribe. Come on Sarawakians. Prove you are proud of your State. Too proud to be bought off!

  • http://www.barubian.net Admin (barubian.net)

You are welcome to visit Baru Bian's new website at http://www.barubian.net . Thank you.

  • Vigilante

Come election time next year in Sarawak, suggest that DAP& PKR in the opposition coalition,Pakatan Rakyat [PR] to get Lim Guan Eng, CM of Penang to campaign for them and wake up Sarawakians just like what he did in the Sibu by-election for DAP and won the seat for Wong Ho Leng

Lim Guan Eng is a very gifted, talented, powerful, convincing and effective speaker and campainer in English, Mandarin and BM. Get him to start campaigning, for example, first in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and finally

    Miri

Get him to wake up those voters to vote for Pakatan Rakyat [PR] in Piasau,Miri,

where that bloody George Chan will be standing and topple him.

This fella talked cock on the last day of DUN meeting when DAP assembly woman, Violet Yong questioned him how his daughter could buy land in BDC at a very cheap price. In reply, he said it was none of her business because it was his personal life and that he could not be bothered to ask who her boyfriend was or how many boyfriends she had. Further, he added if it was state matter, then she could question him.

Well, the land in BDC is state land which was sold very much below market value and without open tender to a company set up by the white haired rajah of which George Chan's daughter is one of the shareholders. If this issue is not a matter of national importance, what else?

The opposition coalition,Pakatan Rakyat, is quite confident of forming the next Sarawak government. If not, they will deny BN of a two third majority.

    • san tet

Vigilante.. why only Dap & PKR? Where is PAS? And please remember DAP won in Sibu by a very-very slim majority… Just watch out for the next GE.

      • Vigilante

I don't know if PAS was involved in the last Sibu by election. The coalition opposition, Pakatan Rakyat,in Sarawak is made up of DAP, PKR,PAS & SNAP and each party has been allocated their shares of seats in all the 71 seats in the Chinese,Malay and Dayak major

        constituencies

DAP won the Sibu by-election by a 398 vote majority (?) due partly to money politics as practised by BN. For example, the PM Nazib, was captured in a YouTube video to have said to the voters in Rajang Park on the eve of the by election, quote "You help me and I help you. If you help Robert Lau to win, I will have a cheque for RM5 million written out for you all on Monday." Unquote

  • MukaKoDiat

i wish there was another elegible party whom we could vote for apart from BN affiliated parties and PKR affiliated parties… one is truly the devil and the other is a devil in disguise..

to truly be a democratic country.

we should not vote for parties but rather community representative individuals whom are elected yearly, all native land to be issued 100 yr titles, implement a properly managed judiciary jury system, abolish death penalty and ISA, get rid of Special Branch, UTK and MACC (licensed govt thugs), and a society where politicians and people of influence are not above the law, where everyone is accountable for their actions, no matter of race, sex or class.

Most Sarawakians are rich with land but with no land titles how can we get loans, even with land title the govt can take it anytime by issuing PL or sections from the land code, Sarawak has truly become a lawless "country", even though we are part of Malaysia, we are ruled by a Dictatorship worse than Cuba or East Germany..

accept it that Sarawak CM rules and owns everything, except for our voice, our right that was protected so valiantly by our forefathers, so are you going to willingly let a fraying old superstitious mongrel CM and his cronies rape us over and over and over… 90% of the sarawak govt should be charged for corruption, but MACC wont do a thing no matter how many complaints are reported because federal govt needs BN in sarawak otherwise they literally are screwed, look at last election, umno would of lost without all the majority seats from sarawak. we need the international community to issue trade sanctions against malaysia to ruffle a few feathers, otherwise, "CIVIL UNREST WILL LEAD TO CIVIL WAR".

If you are truly passionate about change then become an independent candidate in the next election, fight with words of the pain and suffering of your community, dont be affiliated with major parties, you dont need money or magic to buy votes, just a passion and yearning for beneficial change for your community…

    to be a magnificent king;

first you must rule and respect yourself, then rule and be respected by your house, then rule and be respected by your street, then rule and be respected by your neighborhood, then rule and be respected by your community, then rule and be respected by your town, then rule and be respected by your city, then rule and be respected by your state, then rule and respected by your country……..

listen to the voices of our past and learn from their mistakes too, respect for our elderly and family values has dwindled and been poisoned by our greed of wanting more than we need …..

i hope a UAV hits the Sarawak DUN, then maybe, just maybe we all might have a chance…

hats off truly to sarawak report, influentially effective reporting as i have never posted or voiced my opinion… hope you post this, then truly i still have my freedom of speech as my soul is owned by our devilish govt……..

May Allah Have Mercy On Our Souls……..

    peace

There is one problem with Iban people, they are so scare and naive to accept the reformation. As long BN can provide them cap apek and 1 ekor babi, they will vote for BN. 1 ekor babi, the whole longhouse will vote them. What a stupid. I"m iban too and that why i know.

    • Tiarama

Helloween, u are wrong, the Iban are not scared. The fact is they can be bought easily for short term gain. Look at the past and present Iban politicians, aren't they ass-kissing Taib at all cost provided they have a little benefits. The Iban actually had a chance to be the CM in early 1970s when SNAP and PBB each had 18 seats but the two idiots iban leaders wanted an immediate presidentship of the party chosen to split the party into SNAP and PBDS. Had the idiots reamained in SNAP at that time, one of them would have been the CM the following state election. After the Split, PBB remained the dominating party since.

Sarawak belonged to the Taib family. They can do what they like. Do you know that Once upon a time in history, Sarawak was ruled by a Dayak? it's a laughing story now. The winners and losers are clear here, but the losers are so blind that they thought they are the winners, what a laughable story. Land of the Hornbill, they say, but the hornbills are really extinct now, another laughable story.

The sad reality is that basic understanding of Sarawak's Constitutional History is only known by a few.

Therefore how can the State pressure our elected members to rally for the State of Sarawak's rights.

It seems that this topic is not of importance at all to the State Education Board. WTF.

It pains me that had my parents not migrated overseas, I would not have had the opportunity to have been educated about these issues. A balanced education system that encourages students to challenge the norm; understand political power and abuses; how power is perpetuated would empower future generation of Sarawakians to be more vocal for their share of the state's wealth (royalties, etc).

Had our history been different, I strongly believe that a defining Malaysian Constitutional case would be State of Sarawak v Federation of Malaysia, on the matter of State powers in regards royalties, taxes, healthcare, etc etc. Do correct me if I am wrong, but I am certain that Sarawak and Sabah joined the Federation of Malaysia not as States, but in a status equal to that of West Malaysia.

So …. to digress further; for over 40 years now our State's politician has allowed Sarawak's wealth to be illegally ursuped by the Federal Govt. And of these 40 years, the longest serving ministers are …. Abdul Taib Mahmud and George Chan.

need somebody to do something. posting comments here will not change anything. i know about this long times ago since i was in Secondary school, now i finished my first degree, but things still the same in Sarawak. if i'm in a position of capable of making decision, sure i will do something. but i hope i can contribute something for my people and my land someday in future. its been decades, its more than enough! while posting this, i'm not in favor of any political parties because i don't give a damm about politics. personally i might still want BN to rule, but only have to get rid of the HEADs! having said this because i can't trust other opposing parties as well, because if not all, most of them are not totally genuine in whatever they doing, and most parties favors only one or some groups of Race, but not standing on behalf of all MALAYSIAN! i hope all these people who steals from our land will pay for what they did. see you in H**L..
