Growing World Attention Focusses on Sarawak

Growing World Attention Focusses on Sarawak

A picture from the Sunday Times article

The wave of protests and disgust against the destructive regime of Taib Mahmud in Sarawak is continuing and it has gained further attention in the international media.  There have been demonstrations outside properties owned by the Taibs in the UK, Canada and the US and now it has been announced that further protests are planned in Australia, Austria and Switzerland.

Today’s Sunday Times Newspaper, Britain’s premier weekly, has also reported on these developments and summarised the reasons why so many people the world over are rallying to support the plight of the people of Sarawak in the face of the greedy plunder of their jungles and natural resources.  The message is clear – you have not been forgotten and there are many in the world who will move to help you once you are rid of Taib Mahmud.

We present you the article in the Sunday Times, because you will certainly not be hearing about it through any licenced news channels in Malaysia.  This same issue has also been covered in Britain’s Independent Newspaper and also the London Evening Standard in the past few days - the photographs accompanied the article.

PLEA TO OUST RULERS RAZING BORNEO JUNGLE

Campaigners are demanding Britain freeze the assets of a family who have allowed Borneo to become a wasteland through logging and development

Michael Sheridan, Far East Correspondent

Published: 13 March 2011

Campaigners are calling on Britain to freeze the multimillion-pound assets of the ruling family of one of Borneo’s two Malaysian states, accusing them of corruptly benefiting from the rape of the island’s rainforest and the eviction of its native peoples.

The call is part of a concerted effort by conservationists and the Malaysian opposition to end the 30-year rule of Sarawak’s wealthy chief minister, Abdul Taib Mahmud, 74.

In that time, the rainforests of northwest Borneo have been devastated by logging and rare species have vanished. Jungle rivers run foul with industrial poison and the air is often thick with smoke.

Once a treasure house of nature — it is home to the world’s largest flower, flying squirrels and a bird named after the once-ruling British white rajah — Borneo is turning into a wasteland. Its ruin is symbolised by the plight of the orang-utans, whose numbers have fallen by half in 50 years. In place of the pristine rainforests, regimented plantations of oil palms arise to feed the demand for “green” biofuels.

The timber has been felled by companies dependent on licences issued by Taib, and in some cases they are financially connected to his family.

Abdul Taib Mahmud is linked financially with companies who are destroying the rainforest (Handout) Huge dams are cutting a swathe across the tropical landscape. Swept away in the tide of money and development, native peoples who have roamed the jungles for centuries have been thrown off their land. Compensation is scant.

Some tribes, such as the Penan, face an uncertain future. “The Penan are being hit by two forms of supposedly ‘green’ energy — hydroelectric power and biofuels,” said Miriam Ross, of Survival International.

“It’s significant, and frightening, that the Sarawak government has announced plans to double the area used for palm oil plantations by 2020.”

In Sarawak, one family dominates both the government and the companies that exploit the natural resources. Taib has reigned as chief minister, finance minister and minister of planning and resource management since 1981, with no apparent restraints on his powers of patronage. Documents filed in Kuala Lumpur show his wife to be the leading shareholder in the state’s biggest company, Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS).

A glimpse of the Taib family’s vast wealth emerged in divorce papers filed last month by the estranged wife of the chief minister’s son, Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, 48, who among his many other interests is deputy chairman of CMS.

His wife, Shahnaz Majid, is seeking £82m in compensation, claiming that she was subject to physical and mental torture during the marriage.

Other relatives and cronies of Taib have been identified as shareholders or board members of six timber companies profiting from concessions issued by the government. They include a first cousin, who chairs a logging company, and Ahmad Bin Su’it, who is said to be Taib’s personal “bomoh”, or spiritual healer, in the old Malay tradition of black magic.

A global network of 49 Taib-connected companies, including property firms in Britain, Canada and the United States, has been traced by researchers for the Swiss-based Bruno Manser Fund.

The fund, named after a Swiss activist who vanished in the Borneo jungle in 2000, is calling on anti-corruption and money-laundering authorities worldwide to “identify and freeze illicit Taib assets”.

It is also urging the FBI to investigate the death of Ross Boyert, 60, the manager of Taib’s US property assets, who became a whistleblower and was found in September in a Los Angeles hotel room, reportedly with a bag tied over his head.

London has become a hub for Sarawak’s campaigners fleeing intimidation at home. “There have been unpleasant death threats,” said Clare Rewcastle, who runs a campaigning website, Sarawak Report, and is the sister-in-law of Gordon Brown, the former prime minister.

“My first memories and first friends were from Sarawak and I grew up with an enormous sense of awe and delight at the wonderful beauty,” she said. “I came back 35 years later to what I can only describe as a disaster zone.”

Taib’s foes believe an election later this year is the best chance in decades to oust him. However, the government in Kuala Lumpur depends on Taib for parliamentary support, and the weight of the establishment will be thrown against his opponents. Malaysia’s home minister has voiced outrage at Rewcastle’s activities and vowed that police “will leave no stone unturned” to prosecute her — a threat she scorns.

The Sarawak government did not respond to requests to comment.

Congratulations again!! When I was a small boy, I could still see fishs swimmingvers of Sarawak. Later in the 1970's logginf started upriver and there were lots of silt!! Now all the fishes must be blinded. The rivers are almost biologically dead!! It maybe a bit too late but it is not too late to save!!

  • Bobby

Thank you! This is a huge and meaningful victory for us in Sarawak!

  • http://none Watch Dog

SR,well done. This is the beginning of the end of an era.Money Laundering and Tax evasion are the main criteria besides 'abuse of power as well as politics of violence.

The question is;how was "Bruno Manser vanish? Or could he have suffered the same fate like Ross Boyert? The answer lies with you all to think brothers and sisters.I hope that it will spread like wild fire .

In the name of Jesus i command that Taib's azimat failed..Amen

    • Blunt Speaker

I do pray earnestly in the mighty and victorious name of Jesus that world leaders will be touched by the plight of the people and creatures of Sarawak and take necessary action by freezing the ill-gotten assets and monies of this thief minister at all the countries concerned. Bring up this case to the UN to be resolved.

  • flying dove

40 years ago in ulu apoh, baram,U can see a fallen needle in the river. The river water was so clear and clean that you can see fishes, shrimps, snails in the river. There was sustainable food throughout, you caught what you need. Now? don't dream, no such thing anymore. The river has turn yellow (like cocoa drinks), the water is so polluted people are scared to use it for their living needs. Development? what development? no electricity, no roads, nothing and yet our forest, our source of livelihood are gone. Now they want to take away our most precious treasure, our Al-Kitab (bible). Let's all wake up to tear down the "Wall of Jericho". With the physical eyes it looks impossible, but remember we fought not against flesh and blood but against the spirit of darkness.

I call upon all our christian leaders and all the christian YBs do not sell you Saviour for few "silver", like Judas who betrayed Jesus. You can't bring your worldly gains, your riches to the grave. Remember, naked you come naked you go.

    Change We Must! Amin.

    • falcon

yes…I remember one can find needle drop in the river; and I still remember then and now that the kayan are the staunch supporter of the logging companies! Instead of stopping the loggers…you let the loggers come in freely whereas other natives fought/campaigned againts the loggers and govt.

Now I think also all kayan area were given away to the timber companies and oil palm plantation. Only lately, some kayan folks start to fight back but its too late! Why fight now? The logger will be very happy to leave your area because their no more timber to harvest…if they stay, they still need to maintain the dirt road, their diesel fuel in the machineries be stolen or machineries be damaged by some crooks… yes, there are ever ready to leave your area! And people feel great and happy that they think..ohhh they made the logger goes away! Its the other way round!

      • flying dove

FALCON, be carefull with what you say, you think the penan were the first one to "mogok" in Ulu Apoh? Well, many don't know because it happen long(10xxxxxx) time ago, even before I can walk properly on this earth. The kayan from Lg. Atip were the first & my father was the one who lead, he was given a few round of warning shots by the police. Back then there were no Baru Bian or Clare Rewcastle.

The Penan became more prominent in their struggle because of Bruno Manser and Mutang Urud. My father still alive but old nearly 100. We do not have any regrets or guilt because we have done to our best of our ability to protect what is ours without the help from the outside world. Back then there was no computer, no internet, only our lives bared to the mercy of the government police. And I heard the story of Bruno Manser who was hunted like animal by the government, I was just a kid back then. So don't talk SHIT…….people like you know how to TALK,TALK,TALK only but no physical action. No doubt there are "cock-suckers" and "apple polishers" out there, they are just some of rotten apples produce by MODERN GREED.

You know why no development go to our kampung because the government say, "NO KELAPA SAWIT NO ROAD!………

        • Danny

Why use all these names??? use your real name??? scared? but i do support what you said flying dove, dont get angry just correct them if they are wrong, whats important now we should stand united to save what is left for us to save before all are gone….

and Falcon, dont blame others…. our old man all did that same mistakes for voting BN, now its our time to bend the rules and make it right, its our duty… lets move, do it rather then talk about it only…..

          Stand Up & Fight……

      • kucing hitam

strongly agree.may god open the mind of sarawakians that are inland to vote for change.enough is enough for the white hair to rule.should he win this election, i pretty sure he will stay the next stubborn years.so this is the time one have to think not untill its to late.

Falcon & Flying Dove, I feel it is unfair to pinpoint the river pollution to our CM. Pollution is now a global issue. It happens anywhere in the globe, not only in Sarawak. And why are Sarawak rivers polluted? This shall be the responsibility of all of us Sarawakians because we did not take proper care of our rivers all these years. Hence, the rivers got polluted after 50 years to what it is today…

        • wHEn?

          Wonderful sarawak,

You only "feel" but the Hard truth is that our rivers didn't turn yellow and permanently murky before the forest were ripped off and oil palm plantations became a richman cash cow. So don't just "feel" because it detach you from reality.

        • http://sarawaknews.wordpress timchoo

You are absolutely right. ATM is not doing the dirtying job himself, But what he does, through his power and authority, he had unleased uncontrollable animals in the form of giant companies, who don't give a damn about protecting the environment. What matters, money and profits come first, and leave the clean up to the people. If they don't then they will have to drink polluted water. Just like that. So this has nothing to do with global happenings. Please, you may love and want to defend your beloved CM, but don't be ignorant of the fact that all these are done with the approval of your beloved CM.

    • Blunt Speaker

Yes, a lot of beautiful creatures of God, animals, birds and fishes have either nearly or become extinct due to the corrupt practices of Taib and all his greedy cronies. They had abused God's creation out of GREED and I am VERY SURE God is watching and not pleased at all! The over logging, destruction of natural habitat, pollution of rivers and air have caused countless death of animals, birds and fish species and even some tribal people. It also contributed to GLOBAL WARMING affecting the whole world and all humankind. GOD is SURELY displeased with the ABOMINABLE SINS this satanic regime had inflicted on HIS CREATIONS and will not stand idly by and watch. Behold! God is watching and listening to the woes and cries of His people, even a sparrow dropped dead, He knows! Don't mess with Gods creation. DO NOT ABUSE!

The odious PM of Malaysia, Najib Tun Razak protects Taib with his Govt machinery. The police are so corrupt that literally Sarawakians are subjected to thuggery when the leaders are questioned. Its time the World moved against each of these leaders who have records of criminal activity. The same goes to the AG of Malaysia who is from Borneo and closes all cases as " No Further Action". Hundreds die each year in police custody.

These leaders are indirectly the West's placements. The West closes its eyes to all these plunder because of lucrative arms purchases. Unless the West changes its conventional wisdom these blots will hit their shores some day . The World has changed with the web. It will bring down leaders in their home grounds, because they prop up dictators in the Third World at taxpayers expense . The choice is in the West's hands—-they have been silent for too long!!!

I hope the protests will get louder and louder and more campaigners from outside will pressure their government to act. How about another world campaign to boycott products with palm oil? Consumer power to their rescue? Time is running out for these suppressed tribes who have to fend for themselves. They are no match for Taib's regime and machinery.

Even the Opposition parties in Malaysia can't do much to help them as most of Malaysian Institions are under the influence of the government.

Proof: Despite many of your reports, no action has been taken by the anti-corruption agency, police etc against Taib regime!!! All prefer to play dumb, deaf and blind. Imagine, even some West Malaysian Opposition MPs are barred from entering into Sarawak, a state of their own country? If this is not batant abuse, I don't know what it is!

I feel so sad for these poor, simple, innocent tribes, and come each election; they, esp the old folks, become gullible to Taib's offer of money and sweet promises. Heck! Even Malaysian Prime Minister was shown on video making a deal with the electors with "You help me, I help you" speech during the by-election campaign in Sibu. Rule by example!

Congratulations for succeeding in getting world attention focussed on Sarawak with the wave of protests and disgust against the destructive regime of Taib Mahmud. Unfortunately, if rural Sarawak still cannot be convinced into voting against Taib and BN at the next state and general elections, what purpose does it serve? Taib and BN will still win and the plundering will continue. The world is quite big. They will know how to find places to stash their ill-gotten wealth.

If rural Sarawak continues to be Taib's and BN's votebank, all the condemnations from the rest of the world will do no more than tickle and irritate Taib and gang. Better to utilise the energy into finding ways and means to convince rural Sarawak into voting against Taib and BN at coming elections. Don't forget that one rural Sarawakian vote equals 2-3 urban Sarawakian votes.

It’s commendable that Western activists are rising against Taib Mahmud’s wanton destruction of Sarawak’s virgin jungles, and with it the rare species of primate – the Orangutan.

However, the parallel destruction of ethnic minorities by Mahathir Mohamad (and now through his proxies) had escaped these activists’ attention. The ethnic Chinese and Indians in Malaysia have been discriminated for half a century in education, job employment, business, housing and religion. And just like the orangutans, their numbers are also dwindling, through immigration.

Shouldn’t these activists channel their efforts to save the ethnic minorities before they save the orangutans? Have they placed their priorities wrong between saving primates and fellow human beings?

No doubt the orangutans are being systematically slaughtered and displaced; others too are sharing the same fate, albeit in a less brutal manner.

BTW, the zoological species found in Sarawak that named after the British white rajah is a butterfly – the Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing (Trogonoptera Brookiana), not a bird as stated.

    Clare,

Thank you very much and sincerely from the hearts of Sarawakians. Based on the present political set-up there is no way that Taib will be overthrown except 1. if he dies on his job or 2.some outside help is forthcoming in the form of pressures, revelations on Taib's corrupt practices that will eventually made the Malaysian leadership ashamed and calling for change in Sarawak.

Clare, you fit in nicely in the second category. we need people like you to help us to expose the corrupt character of Taib to the world, so much so that he will not be able to hold his head high internationally. He has to be portrayed as a pirate and villain of Borneo.

We need more than that we need to the British to look into the conditions for sarawak and Sabah when joining peninsula Malaya and singapore to form Malaysia. We have the 20 points agreement but most of these terms were ignored by the west Malaysians and SARAWAKIANS and sabahans cannot do anything about it esp. with the compromising and corrupt Chief ministers of both States.

We Sarawakians and sabahans want out of malaysia if possible, esp after all the plundering of our natural resources since independence from Great Britain. GB has a moral obligation to look after us after we were left with Malaya who had proven to a worst colonial master. They had ignored the agreement and yet the 2 states cannot do anything about it. There is no escape clause, no thanks to the British colonial masters.

So Clare, the road ahead is difficult but there must be a start somewhere. You should team up with people like Dr. Jeffery Kitingan of Sabah who is fighting for a bigger voice for Sabah and Sarawak. Also look for people like Francis Siah of Movement for Change Sarawak and Raja Petra Kamarrudin (RPK).

    God Bless your crusade!!

It is not enough to oust the current chief minister and his family/cronies in Sarawak! The fact is that one can only successfully reove him and his family when in west malaysia (federal government)the BN government falls! Reason being because of their additonal greed the chief minister gets away with murder, intimitation, desteruction, etc.

It remain to be seen, however, if the federal opposition can deliver in Sarawak. Looking at the last three years the opposition has not really delivered in the states controlled by them either.

Remove BN for good on the federal level and for Sarawak in particular try to establish an opposition party which has the well being of Sarawak as it's agenda!

That is the only way forward!

    A Personal Plea

The Taib & Crony fiasco has turned on its ugly head with some critics and commentators harping on religious and racial sentiments and overtones which can greatly complicate the issue at hand. Yes, we may feel disgusted, angry and cheated, and understandably so, but let not those sentiments be turned into ugly actions leading to civil chaos and possibly loss of property and human lives. Our question is who is willing to come forward and be held responsible if such a situation arises? PKR? Baru Bian? You might as well hope for comic heroes like Superman or Spiderman to save you from your predicament. Seriously, this is a situation that MUST and CAN be avoided at all costs. My plea is don’t play with fire if you can’t handle it.

Instead use our heads and minds, and not our emotions to overcome the issue. Some critics may say it’s easier said than done, but look at how 5 volunteers operating from a London apartment can shake a State government. They use their heads and even if they were involved in the demonstrations in UK, US & Canada, was there any civil disorder or unrest? Not the least. They follow whatever is permitted within their laws, and that is the way it should be. Otherwise, the law of the jungle will prevail, notwithstanding the fact that others may have broken the law may times over.

Looking at history and the plight of the human kind, there seldom is a happy ending to situations where religious and racial issues take centre stage. It always turns out uglier than we can ever imagine.

Worst, do we all want to create an ugly situation where Taib & Crony would turn around and say ‘see, these people are worse off than us’, giving them a ready excuse and easy way out? These are the people you want to rid off, not religion and race!

Here I want to share with our brothers and sisters on various issues.

    1. 30,000 bibles detained in Kuching Port,Sarawak.

***When Sarawak and Sabah joined Malaya to form Malaysia, there are 18 points plan for Sarawak and 20 points plan for Sabah9North Borneo)If at that time was NOT accepted by Malaya, I am sure that Sarawak and Sabah will not joined Malaya to form Malaysia. Malaysia was formed on 16th September,1963 together with Singapore who withdrew two(2) years later.Sarawak and Sabah are already a country in her own rights and by joining Malaya,it was a demotion from country to state.

    18 points plan for Sarawak.

    1.Point 1-RELIGION.

**While there was NO objection to Islam being the national religion of Malaysia there should be no State religion in Borneo(Sarawak & Sabah),and the provisions relating to Islam in the present Constitution of Malaya should NOT applt to Borneo.

    * *http://hornbillunleashed.wordpress.com/2010/12/30/13198

So why are the 30,000 bibles detained in our very own state Sarawak.

ARAB CHRISTIANS EXPRESS CONCERN ABOUT MALAYSIAN BIBLE ROW.

    * *http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/arab-christians...

    Quote:

"Bishop Munib A.Younan, religious leader from Lutheran World Federation met with Unity Minister Dr Koh Tsu Khoon to discuss the issue last Thursday. Jordian King gave every church 5,000 square metres of land FREE to churches to allow them to build their houses of worship. So he hopes that Malaysia will follow what the Jordian King did.".

    Unquote.

It is a wildest dream for us christian in Malaysia with the exception of Sarawak and Sabah but now beginning to control. In Sarawak and Sabah,we must bring the BIBLE subject to Schools especially mission schools. We want bible back as a school exam subject now. There is NO big deal here.

By the blood of JESUS,we ask…Amen

    • http://google cucuk belian

My fellow watchdog, there is no provision in Al-Quran to stop others from practicing their religious right. I am a Muslim myself and I dont see any logic behind all these restriction. I went to mission school myself, and here today I'm still a truthful believer of my religion @ Islam. This kind of law was introduced by the so called Muslim leader that knows and understand nothing about Islam and yet make used of all these laws to create uneasiness amongst Muslim, particularly Malays. This kind of game has been played over and over again to make them look as if they are the rightful leader of Malay. The same leader will not hesitate to remind Malays on 13th May incident and normally they will revert to all these issues whenever they felt threaten. I just cant accept the fact, how on earth do they called themselves as a true leader of Islam when they never practiced one, what more to say abide to the spirit of Islam as stated in Hadith and Sunnah. They can call themselves as a Muslim leader alright, but they can never be my leader and I strongly believe most Muslim will share my view.

Just a glimpse of a true Muslim leader, Syaiddina Abu Bakar As Siddique. He used all his property and asset just to help Rasulullah SAW in spreading Islam teachings all over Mekah and Madinah. That what he did until his last breath! The minute he dies pun pakey baju bertampong. The same goes to Salahuddin Al Ayubi. When most Muslim failed to wrest Baitulmuqadis, he easily did it. Why? Because he believes in the real Islam teachings, provided for by Al-Quran and further explained by Hadith and Sunnah. He did not demolishes church or killed christian or Jews. Fairness is the name of the game. Compare what we have today with all these leaders? The nearest/best that we could have today is Tok Guru Nik Aziz. The rest, makin dekat nak mati pun makin kuat nambah harta, nambah bini. And every time they says something, it will start with a lie and round up with million more of lies.

      • http://none Watch Dog

Yes,you are dead right bro. I have a Muslim friend who joined BOYS BRIGADE and attended church service too and yet still a Muslim .He even took bible subject as his GCE 'o' level. It seems that from my former school these muslim students hold high position in banks and government service.

I have tried sending my daughter to learn quaran but was told it is only for muslim. Sad sad sad

Well done Claire and the rest of the team. I'm sorry you had to miss home Peter, but things will change soon. Our prayers are with you and the team. I know Sarawak report has done a good job by informing the locals of all the corrupt practice happening in the country. However there is another problem which I forsee will happen over and over again in the coming general election. VOTE Swapping! You see the logistic is a problem during election in Sarawak. Most of the voting area is in a very remote area and are only assessible by helicopters or long boats. Opposition is always denied these fascilities. The chances to alter the voting papers by the ruling gov inside or on these fascilities are huge, afterall the opposition is not allowed to accompany these ballot box. Did you notice that election in town area are always won by the opposition. That's because these ballot box does not need to travel far. So how do we solve this problem? BN ruling gov will ensure they win in the next general election at all cost!

Why not add counter to the website to monitor how many people visit the site. My estimates is it could easily be over 20000 hits per day

    My dear Sarawakian,

If the pollution of Sarawak River is to put on blame pada CM, why don't we also blame him for the damages in Japan due to Tsunami? I understand all your anger, but pls be realistic sikit lah. Pollution of the river bukan salah nya ajak, is Your, My, His & Her Gred Grand Parents, Grand Parents, Parents & even our own fault! Tangga kita semua, buang sampah sesuka hati ajak, nei dak bumi kita sakit?! Iboh blamed CM on this pls.

    • QyampunqBoyz

Hello uncle! Did your mother deliver you under a cosmopolitan junction trafic light, under a flyover or what? Oh yeah, I got it now. You probably have never visit your village for many years now, what more to say about visiting the stream/river lines around your village, thus it have never click in your mind to ever differentiate it's psychical being and appearance between now and then.

Since both Falcon and Dove are excellent flyers, they have seen and knows exactly what are the human activities that have took place all along the river lines throughout 'The land of the hornbill'

What they meant are, the river bank have gone narrowed, their depth gone shallowed and the once "Borneo Crystal Clear mineral water' have turned to mamak's 'teh tarik' as compared to what it is before the arrival of John Deeres and Kobelcos. Do you think the cangkuls and the parangs could ever cause such a catastrophe? Are you accusing these rural people of dumping their garbages into their rivers, their life?

      • http://none Watch Dog

Yes,he is damned bloody silly fool, pea brain. River log jam is caused by TM and his timber cronies,"PA LU LI ASAL LUI LATANG".

JAPAN TSUNAMI IS NATURE'S CAUSE..EARTHQUAKE.These are two different things.

Vincent ,wake up now from your deep slumber unless your master pays you hefty sum to praise him.How much are you paid? oops.that is confidential

      • Vincent

Hey QyampungBoyz, have you ever heard of “sikit-sikit jadi bukit”?? I throw a bit, you throw a bit, he throws a bit, she throws a bit, they throw a bit for 50 years down the road… don’t you think the crystal clear mineral water will turn into teh tarik, the river bank will turn narrowed and the river depth will turn shallowed??

I cant imagine if people like you were to rule Sarawak… You will be criticizing how lousy the previous ruler is rather than working to improve the state! Furthermore, with such rude manners… Be professional please. Dont just criticize, what will you do if you were to rule Sarawak?? Or shall i say, what can you do??

  • zzzZZZ

doing protest outside Malaysia really are creating some impact, if only the protest can be held in Sarawak…then it should be more powerful… why not all European, Australian, Canadian, american and all the protesters from other country come to Sarawak and together we protest… u know Malaysian police, u know ISA, people who protest or threatening the country will be arrested.

My point is their country, government will not just sit there and watch, newspapers around the world will spread the news and AHA!!!

najib will kena boom from every country to release their people from out prison..by then, u you can imagine how BIG the effect.

    • Amet

Hi zzzZZZ. That was already tried 20 years ago. Protesters from a number of countries locked themselves to logging barges at Kuala Baram and were thrown into jail for 2 to 3 months. It got some media attention but none of their governments did anything, and after the fuss died down and it was business as usual.

  • Rebel

I read with pride about Francis Siah's courageous deed when he made a police report in Kuching on Taib's abuse of power. You are a true Hero. This was reported in the Brunei Times and Malaysiakini and little or no coverage from the government-controlled media, which only prints government propaganda and lies.

Now, Taie Mammoth will not have peace of mind; he does not know what to do. Keeping mute will mean that all the accusations against him in the Sarawak Report and Bruno Manser Reports are true. On the other hand, responding to it would require him to disproof the mountain of evidences piled up against him.

Najib must know about the track record of the bad boy(s) in Sarawak, but he realises that Sarawak is too fragile and shaky for him to rock the boat. He is counting on Mammoth to yet again deliver crucial BN seats for him so that he can remain as PM (remember 'You help me, I help You"?). There is however another side to the coin. Supporting the bad boy may backfire against the BN if there is a massive backlash against the tyrant, more so now that he has been made world famous by international media.

No doubt, the good work of Clare et al through Sarawak Report is slowly eroding the very foundation that Taie is standing on. It is just a matter of time that the Mammoth Shit will come tumbling down like Mubarak at the rest of the Dictators.

    • http://none Watch Dog

Bro,Najib and Taib are now bargaining. Najib says .."Stay aside and I will finance the state election and you keep quiet"..but Taib said,if you want me to finance the state election so whatever money I will bring in, you have to just look and see.So the questions now:_

      1. Will Najib finance the election with US$800 million on standby??

      2. Will he allow Taib Mahmud to finance the state election and bring his money back without Federal interference?

Here we are not talking about millions BUT Billions.

** The billions that TM wants to bring in belong to the people of Sarawak.** There is a rumour going on .I hope that the World Financial Communities are watching this with eyes wide open and ears drooping. Whatever it is or which ever way but lose .We will watch every banks transaction or monitor every moves by BN now..The money can be brought in by containers and his BOMOH Ahmad Su'ut can ask lucifers, satan, djins to carry in 5 minutes but Jesus is watching and hope that it fails as we want GOD to help us now..By the blood of Jesus…all plans using bomoh failed now.In Jesus name we ask..Amen.

      • Blunt Speaker

Another VERY BIG AMEN from me, Bro! TQ!

  • Tuggang Anak Balau

The British are jealous of Taib. How the British wish they did not leave Sarawak. For the 100+ years of suffering in Sarawak the Brookes left with only a token. Peanut to what Taib managed to grab.

Well done Taib! You are truely an Entreprenuer.

So Tuggang, this is what you want. Praise and help Taib to rob Sarawak of its wealth. British cherita kelia, kitai idup di Sarawak diatu. So we correct the present wrong so that we can have a correct future. Nya iya akih. Anang mapap muji Taib.

EVEN WITH SARAWAK REPORT NOW ON GOING EXPOSING THE THIEF MINISTER OF RAPING THE FOREST, RIGHT NOW IN KPG TRINGUS IN BAU BORDERING WITH BENGOH, AN ILLEGAL LOGGING IS GOING ON. THE GANGSTERS AND THE POLICE ARE THREATENING THE KAMPONG PEOPLE THERE.

THE RIVER IS MURKY AND THE STUDENTS CANNOT TAKE THEIR BATH IN THE RIVER OR EVEN GRAVITY FEED PIPE WATER AS THE WATER IS POLLUTED. YESTERDAY I WENT TO THE KAMPONG AND SORRY TO SEE THE RIVER IS REALLY 'CRYING' NOW.

ILLEGAL LOGGING TARGETED THE OLD BURIAL GROUND WHERE TREES ARE HUGE AND PLENTIFUL.

JUST LAST WEEK THE LOGGING TRUCK AND EXCAVATOR WAS BURNT,DON'T KNOW WHO AND TWO VANS LOADED WITH THE POLICE.SO HOW CAN YOU MAKE TWO WRONGS RIGHT.THE POLICE IS PROTECTING THE THIEF,THEY STEAL THE TREES AND YET PROTECTED BY THE POLICE. WHAT SORT OF JUSTICE IS THIS?? ANY LEARNED FRIEND THERE? HOW CAN THE POLICE PROTECTED THE THIEVES??THEY STEAL THE LOGS AND YET WANT POLICE PROTECTION. IT IS JUST LIKE STEALING MONEY FROM YOU NEIGHBOUR AND YET WANT THE POLICE TO PROTECT YOU AND NOT YOUR NEIGHBOUR.

WHAT SORT OF JUSTICE IS THIS?? HA HA HA HA POLICE PROTECTING THE CRIMINALS?? WHERE ARE YOU JUDGE? IS THIS YOU CALL JUSTICE?? MOCKING JUDICIAL SYSTEM.

To all Sarawak people/voters, pls read this carefully: After reading so much reports from all sides of the contending parties and about the whole systems and the going-ons here in Malaysia, its vry clear dat we are heading for a DISASTER!! For goodness sake, pls come to your senses and VOTE them OUT!!..these people think they are gonna stay here forever!, they are not godfearing, they simply do what they like to amass wealth, abuse power, then they lie and keeps on lying. They talk n talk about developments, of course the rakyat deserves it simply bcos its the rakyat's money in the first place!! It does not beong to the Taibs, Najibs or the BN! But whenever there is the so called development, guess who gets the contract? See? And now they are pledging this and that project, give RM here n there and even handing out beers! OMG!!!this is really a bloody corrupted society/leaders! Sarawakians, you are answerable to your future generations for not correcting things while you can, this will all go down in history! Work doubly hard, go tell the truth to the people who are easily swayed by some cheap 'candies' esp the elders in the remote areas. Dont be scared by the intimidators, where are your so called warriors to counter them? Common, the whole of Malaysia are putting on hope on Sarawak, turn the tidal-wave, you'll create history if you win, meaning if you win, the Federal govt will also be changed! I'm sure you all want that…Sarawak will be the saviour, justice will be served to the criminals, crooks, rapist, hoarders, grabbers; judicial, the police, immigrations, MACC/SPRM, etc will be revamped/overhauled and put to normal/clean/better systems; opportunities, health, educations and the country's wealth will be distributed equally/fairly. Its NOW or NEVER!!! Just do it, put the evils where they belong…to JAILS, solitary confinements, hard labour and do community works!! and you are a blessed people bcos you are leading us…to be a HAPPY MALAYSIANS!!!!!!!!
