BN YB Roland Sagah’s ‘Cottage Industry’ – Expose!

Blatant - you can reach this YB at his office address at Cottage Holdings Sdn Bhd, a multi-million ringgit public contractor!!

Outraged readers of Sarawak Report have been queuing up to dish the dirt on BN’s Dirty Datuks over the past few days.

We have received widespread information about corrupted practices from insiders, who are clearly sickened by the greedy YBs, who have been cheating their constituents for decades.

And it seems that many of those YBs, who have been in office longest, have lost any shame over admitting that they use their positions as elected representatives to get public contracts.

Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Assemblyman for Tarat, who has been in office since 1996, is one such example.

He openly proclaims on his Sarawak Page entry, next to his lengthy political career, the fact that he is also the Director of Cottage Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Cottage Holdings is a contractor, which has received a string of public commissions ever since Sagah got his seat in 1996!

Tight shot - the private office where you had best try reaching this publicly elected official. Hope he has time for his constituent business with all those contracts to worry about!

RM50million in state contracts

Cottage Holdings may sound a humble affair, but it actually does very big business indeed.

Under the title of ‘General Works” and ‘Transportation Services’, it has won a numerous public contracts.

Starting in 1998, two years after Sagah settled into office as a faithful PBB State Assemblyman, the work has just flowed into the company from the grateful government.

The list at the official Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) shows no less than 59 major public contracts totalling some RM50 million !

RM50 million in contracts may not be the same sort of money that the likes of Alfred Jabu, the Deputy Chief Minister has been making out of the companies his own family runs. Or indeed Daud Abdul Rahman’s Eastbourne Corporation construction and property empires, which are worth billions.

However, as a former barrister trained at Grays Inn, London, Roland Sagah can only be too aware of what constitutes conflict of interest.  And he knows that his new career as a part-time politician/ part-time construction company director is a very good example of it.

Clearly, he just wasn’t making enough out of his legal practice and his Assemblyman’s salary to keep him and his wife happy.  In fact it is his wife, Kelly Ak Rebid, who lives with him at his home, aptly named Mirubuh Cottage, who is his fellow Director and Sharholder of the company!

The husband and wife team owning the multi-million ringgit construction company Cottage Holdings Sdn Bhd

Have these so-called representatives of the people no shame or has BN become so utterly and helplessly corrupt, that these YB’s have lost sight between what is right and wrong and no longer bother to hide their misdeeds?

Wonder how much this YB Dawos get as ‘volunteer’ director in Trienekens state-linked company..?

    Overworked Dawos prepared to go

by Jeremy Veno, Borneo Post, March 24, 2012, Saturday

KUCHING: Mambong MP Dato Dr James Dawos said he would not lose any sleep if he is dropped in the 13th general election because politics is only a ‘voluntary job’, and the salary politicians received could hardly compensate for the huge responsibilities they shoulder.

“I do not know why people are so interested in politics? After all, it is a voluntary job. We have to work hard for the people, but how about the money in it? It is so little!

“I don’t mind if they (BN leaders) drop me. I can easily get jobs anywhere at the international level,” Dawos told a press conference after closing ‘Sarawak Homestay Entrepreneurship Workshop’ at the state library here yesterday.

Dawos, who is also Deputy Tourism Minister, has been Mambong MP for the last three terms. He helmed the seat ever since it was created in 1999.

He said that he was once offered to work for six months as a consultant for the United Nations, an assignment which could bring in US$200,000, excluding claims.

“That is more than RM600,000 working for six months. The remaining six months can be used to play golf. It is that kind of opportunities that I got but missed because of politics.

“I have been asked to defend my seat (Mambong), but, for me, it is not about politics, but focused direction. I indulge in politics because I want to develop my constituency, and that’s it.”

Dawos said he was not an elected representative who only sat behind a desk and cut ribbons. Instead, he was always moving on the ground to meet the people and to ensure that all development projects were carried out properly.

“When I told people to give me back my personal life, they brand me ‘lokek’ because I do not want to help them anymore.”

Dawos, however, said whoever replaced him must be able to exceed the benchmark that he had set in Mambong and Sarawak, such as his role in pioneering the setting up of the Natural Resource and Environment Board (NREB) to counter foreign NGO attacks on the state’s timber industry.

“All those things I have done and pioneered in Sarawak, otherwise, the scenario in the state would not be like what it is today.

“The way I do it is to lobby and ask the ministers and landlords I want this and that. That is why a lot of things have already been done in my area (Mambong).”

Dawos pointed out that major roads in his constituency had been tar-sealed while water and electricity supply were awaiting implementation by the state government. They are expected to be completed in all the villages this year.

“I have the entire list of projects approved because after applying all those lists are given to me, but on the implementation side the money is with the state government to get these projects implemented.”

    Do you believe this crap?

Pemandu claims improvement in overall graft scores

By Yow Hong Chieh, The Malaysia Insider, November 01, 2010

Idris Jala’s team says that when several credible reports are averaged, Malaysia is doing better in the fight against graft.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 — Pemandu today defended its CEO Datuk Seri Idris Jala’s view that Malaysia was “on the right track” in its corruption fight, ignoring the Transparency International (TI) report which stated the opposite.

The Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) pointed to other corruption perception surveys by “reputable international organisations” which indicated Malaysia improving in its graft fight. Malaysia dropped slightly from 4.5 to 4.4 in TI’s annual Corruption Perception Index (CPI).

In a statement today, Pemandu said that in the past year, Malaysia had bettered its graft score from 5.2 to 6.3 in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook, from 3.6 to 4.6 in the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy’s (PERC) Asian Intelligence Newsletter and from 4.5 to 4.6 in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Competitiveness Report.

“If we take the average score of the four surveys, it is clear that Malaysia’s index has improved from 4.45 in 2009 to 4.975 in 2010,” the statement continued.

Last Thursday, Idris insisted that the government was still on track in tackling corruption despite Malaysia continuing to score poorly on the CPI.

He downplayed the graft watchdog’s findings, claiming that Malaysia’s CPI score “essentially” remained the same this year and did not reflect the government’s progress in combating corruption.

“Although this score is not quite a case for celebration, it need not be seen as a negative development,” Idris had said in a statement.

The CPI released last Tuesday showed that Malaysia’s score dipped further this year, from 4.5 to 4.4 out of 10 — with 10 being the least corrupt — after the country experienced its worse ranking ever last year.

The annual TI CPI measures how corrupt a country’s public sector is based on data sourced from 13 different polls and surveys from 10 independent institutions over a period of two years.

The three least corrupt countries in the world were, in order, Denmark, New Zealand and Singapore.

    Malaysia’s previous worst scores below 5 were 4.8 in 2000, 4.9 in 2002 and 4.5 last year.

The country’s ranking puts it on par with Namibia and Turkey.

In releasing its report, TI had said the Najib Administration still lacked the political will to weed out corruption and stressed that steps must be taken to tackle problems with implementation.

Despite government efforts to fight corruption, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency’s (MACC) inability to prosecute “big fish,” lack of progress in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) fiasco, inaction by the Attorney-General’s Chambers in the “Lingam tapes” case, and contracts without open tender have continued to haunt public perception.

“We acknowledge that if one were to look only at Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, there is a slight reduction. We need to do a lot more work. However, if one were to look at the outcome of the other 3 surveys on corruption in Malaysia by reputable organisations, then the score clearly shows that there are improvements.

“Hence, Dato Sri Idris Jala said that on corruption efforts, we are the right track. Furthermore, it should be clarified that Transparency International CPI for 2010 takes into account 9 surveys which were conducted between January to December 2009 and January to September 2010. Our NKRA work on corruption only began in January 2010 after the GTP Roadmap launch on 28 January 2010 and therefore, the CPI surveys conducted in 2009 do not reflect the NKRA work which only began in 2010,” said Pemandu in a statement today.
