Perversion of Democracy

Defeated roundly in a general election the criminalised opposition UMNO are now trying to pervert the result by manipulating the non- elected Senate.

Thls body, mistakenly inserted into the original Constitution by the British, presumably to create a clone of their own unelected House of Lords, might have been intended to act as a check on irresponsible legislation. But certainly not as a means of blocking the will of the elected majority. Even the British version cannot, and dare not, do that, on pain of extinction.

So the obvious immediate remedy for PH is to amend the Constitution to abolish the Senate, assuming they have the votes to do that. The justification is there for all to see. Deliberate attempts to block the decision of the voters by an unelected body cannot be tolerated in a democracy. The “blockers” should be told in unmistakeable terms to back down or face political extinction.

It would be interesting, but hopefully unnecessary, to see the Senate’s reaction to the result of arch criminal Najib’s forthcoming trial(s). Do its members really want a forensic examination of their individual conduct and their personal wealth?

A word to the wise. Stop now while you still can, as free men.
