Time To Step Up To The Plate

Time for the Swiss central government that is. It is bad enough to be harbouring and foot dragging on prosecution of notorious thieves implicated in the 1 MDB mega swindle/scandal. It is quite another to find that the national Attorney General may be inappropriately involved in the delays; which seem more and more curious every day.

Switzerland has not, in the past, enjoyed a reputation for financial openness and probity though, to be fair, some steps towards improvement have been made by the Swiss authorities. Some steps, but clearly not enough if the Attorney General can ignore one of the biggest ever swindles in international history and that while two of the principal perpetrators are living in Switzerland in conditions of great luxury while the criminal  cases against them gather dust in the AG’s drawer.

If the Federal government of Switzerland want to improve their country’s reputation for financial integrity, as opposed to its status as an haven for illicitly acquired funds, action is needed now. A new Attorney General could be a first step in the right direction.
