What Nonsense - We Did Report It!

Cheras Umno chief Syed Ali Alhabshee said whistleblower portal Sarawak Report should report the alleged RM7 million payment from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to the military’s intelligence chief instead of making accusations.

“If it is real then go and report and take action. The problem with them is that they make accusations without solid proof.

“If they have the evidence, report and take action. Why do they keep alleging this person got (money) and that person got (money),” he told journalist after officiating his division’s delegates meeting.

Syed Ali was asked to respond to Sarawak Report which had in recent weeks highlighted alleged transactions from Najib’s personal bank accounts, citing purportedly leaked investigation documents.

Amongst the alleged payments included RM7 million from the prime minister’s personal bank account to the “Ketua Pengarah Perisikan Pertahanan” (director-general of the Defence Staff Intelligence Division) on April 8, 2013.

The portal claimed that the intelligence chief was Abdul Hadi Hussin, who is still serving in the position.

If there was an elephant in the room taking a bath this UMNO big-wig would presumably demand ‘solid proof’ before taking action.

Thus the US Dept of Justice publishes the money trail, consolidated by a swathe of international banking institutions and Syed demands ‘solid proof”.

The MACC and Bank Negara and Auditor General and Public Accounts Committee and Attorney General (before being sacked) all have said there is a case that must be investigated, yet Syed says there is no proof to act on.

Next he laments that Sarawak Report has ‘not reported’ the leaks that everyone has been talking about for weeks, detailing payments which several recipients have subsequently admitted to and none have effectively denied.

But, of course we reported it. That’s why everyone (including him) is talking about it!  It’s what journalists do. They report. We are called Sarawak REPORT.

Syed’s duty along with his governing colleagues is to now take the matter up, but he prefers to pretend he cannot see the elephant spraying water round the room.

The sad situation in Malaysia is that people like Syed are being given the time of day. The facade of normality and due process is being maintained by a crowd of nervous courtiers and embarrassed by-standers as the Emperor stands stark naked.
