This part of a sentence passed on a man convicted of the same number of acts of criminal breach of trust may have been thought apposite by the Judge passing that sentence. but hardly anyone else will agree with him.

Quite apart from that form of punishment for criminal offence being out-dated and barbaric, the scale of its use here is totally inappropriate; as the Appeal Court will no doubt rule.

The Chief Justice will equally probably be giving consideration to the question of whether this particular Judge should be trying criminal cases.
