Intolerance

A Muslim religious personality has gone public with praise for mass murderer Saddam Hussein claiming that he was responsible for unity in Iraq and suggesting that similar measures are needed in Malaysia to preserve Malay dominance.

Many will find it strange that a religious figure should be publicly advocating discrimination; to give his views the politest possible description. No doubt they have come to the notice of the IGP who needs to consider if further action is necessary in what appears to be evidence of a breach of Malaysia’s laws.

All that apart the public expression of such communal views, and by a religious personality at that, is to be strongly deplored. The views themselves are foolish enough but to give them public expression risks the disruption of communal harmony without which Malaysia cannot develop and flourish.

The views expressed by this religious personality are, of course, his own and do not in any way commit the PH government which is far too sensible to regard them as other than an expression of the sort of racism that can only bring harm to the country and hinder its development.  Perhaps a suggestion to the personality concerned that he concentrate on the religious aspect of his duties might be a more sensible way to go?
