Sarawak Report is absolutely correct in pointing out the responsibility of the Federal government for the multiple abuses being committed in the Borneo States in connection with the total destruction of the rainforest there.
Yes. Forestry is a State matter according to the Constitution. But that is a poor excuse for ignoring massive, decades long, corruption in connection with it. The MACC could sort that out without difficulty. But they are not doing so so. Why not?
The only reason that makes any sense is that they are being prohibited from doing so. If that is not the case what excuse do they have for massive dereliction of their public duty, for which they are paid by the taxpayers. So challenged they can only reply. “Orders” From who and why accept illegal directives? Old obligations may weigh on consciences but they have no weight on public duty.
Set the MACC to work in Sarawak today and restore PH’s reputation for honest government; sadly challenged by permitting massive corruption in Sarawak to continue unchecked and unpunished.
