Taxes: What Taxes?

A daughter of ex-prime Minister Najib has reportedly asked a Court for a stay of proceedings against her by the tax authorities in respect of over RM TEN MILLION in unpaid taxes due from 2011 to 2017. Roughly the same period that her father was Prime Minister.

While is is good to see the tax authorities chasing up defaulters Malaysians will note the coincidence in dates. No sooner than Papa gets the top spot than children start gaining vast sums yet stop paying tax. And a lot of tax too.

This raises the questions of what and how much tax Najib himself paid? We know from the SRC trial that he spent dozens of millions of SRC money on wife Rosmah. Did he bother to pay tax on any of that ? Or even on his official salary?  Will the Income Tax department either tell us or bring yet another criminal case against him for tax evasion?

Rumour has it that since the PN coup the word has already gone out that Najib is innocent on all current charges and that the Judges should confirm that? Rumour, but based on past BN manipulation of the Judiciary, it sounds all too likely. The public will have to hope that the Courts will resist any such illegal pressure and do justice according to law.
